Ministry says community civic hubs crucial for peace
Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development says civic education hubs are crucial in ensuring peaceful coexistence among people in communities.
The ministry’s Department of National Unity director of peace and unity Emmanuel Bambe said this on Tuesday at Sanga in Nkhata Bay when the department trained Mankhambira Civic Education Hub members on peace building initiatives.
He said: “If you look at Malawi, it experiences a lot of shocks. Some of them are natural while others are man- made. The natural ones emanate from pandemics and epidemics as well as disasters of different magnitudes.

“We believe that as long as we set up these hubs in our communities, we should be able to transform Malawi in terms of how we think and what we do.”
Bambe commended the communities in Traditional Authority Mankhambira for embracing mindset through the hub, saying it will help to enhance development.
The hub’s chairperson Robert Mkorongo said he was excited that the hub is resolving disputes in the area.
“We have resolved family conflicts after being oriented on the need to ensure peaceful co-existence within our communities,” he said.
Acting Senior Chief Mankhambira pledged to work with the committee to continue fighting social ills for communities to live in peace and harmony.
“Peace is crucial for development. Therefore, I will promote it among my subjects,” he said.
The ministry is implementing the initiative in the district through the Boma Lathu Project with funding from the European Union.
